Adware and Spyware
The guys in marketting would pay dearly to know what topics and websites you find interesting and, with a little help from some clever programmers, may be getting their wish.
Adware and Spyware are a type of program that runs silently in the background on your computer; collecting information about the sites you visit, the programs you use, or the things that you search for and then reporting it back to the authors. They, then, sell that information to interested companies.
Even if you don't have a problem with someone spying on your computer habits or slowing your computer down with another running task, there is the added problem that many of these programs cause computer crashes in the software that you need and use.
Luckily , a company named Lavasoft has written a free utility to scan and remove these programs from your computer. You can download it here and I heartily recommend its use on a regular basis.
